Accessibility

Everyone should be able to use this shop.

We are a small company and this is a small site, but that is not a reason for it to be difficult to use. We are working to make teakwa.com usable by as many people as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or voice control.

What we are aiming for

We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard most widely referenced for websites. We are not claiming full conformance today. Parts of the site have not been formally audited, and we would rather say so than post a badge we cannot stand behind.

What we have done

  • Text alternatives on product and workshop images
  • Keyboard navigation through menus, product pages and checkout
  • Headings structured in order, so a screen reader can move through a page sensibly
  • Text contrast checked against the AA threshold
  • Page text that resizes without breaking the layout
  • Dimensions, materials, lead times and delivery terms written as text rather than baked into images

Where we know we fall short

  • Some product photography does not yet carry a full descriptive alternative — we are rewriting these as we reshoot the collection
  • We have not commissioned an independent accessibility audit
  • Parts of the checkout are provided by Shopify and are outside our direct control, though Shopify maintains its own accessibility programme

If something gets in your way

Tell us and we will fix it — and in the meantime we will get you what you need another way. If any part of this site stops you from finding a piece, understanding it, or buying it, write to hello@teakwa.com with what happened and, if you can, the page and the assistive technology you were using.

We reply personally, usually within a day. We are happy to take an order, quote a commission, send dimensions or describe a piece over email or by phone at +1 (352) 745-4881 if that is easier.

We treat accessibility problems the way we treat a flaw in a finish: as something to put right, not something to argue about.
