The Gendang Coffee Table

Gendang — Indonesian for "drum."

A deep ebonised drum with a warm teak tray set into its top, the rim raised just enough to hold a book, a glass, a bowl of something. The grain is left visible through the dark finish so the body reads as wood, not paint. Two doors open into concealed storage — the calm of a closed form, with somewhere to put things.

What happens after you order

1. You have 72 hours to change your mind, refunded in full.
2. Timber is selected and your maker assigned — we send you a photograph.
3. Turning and ebonising, then four to six weeks in the kiln, dried to 10% moisture and logged.
4. Final photographs before crating. Nothing ships unseen.
5. Delivered to your door — crated, protected and duty-paid. Bringing it inside and unpacking it are yours; plan for two people.

Before you order

• 900mm across — a generous round for a larger sofa arrangement. Allow walking room. Listed dimensions are nominal, with a tolerance of about ±2cm on hand-made work.
• Expect variation. The ebonising is applied so the grain stays visible, which means the figure differs table to table. The design and the standard of finish will not.
• Nothing to pay on arrival. Import duties, taxes and delivery to your door are included in the price. See Delivery for exactly what that covers.

Care

Re-oil the teak tray once or twice a year. Wipe the ebonised body with a barely damp cloth — no solvents, no polish. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators and vents.
