The Lentera Lounge Chair

Lentera — Indonesian for "lantern."

A single carved crest leans back like a sail, and from it a fan of natural cord falls to a low, splayed teak frame. Light passes through the weave the way it passes through a paper lantern — the chair reads as a glow rather than a mass. The frame is hand-carved with a soft facet along each outer edge; the cord is strung by hand in two tones, so a quiet horizon line runs where the seat meets the back.

What happens after you order

1. You have 72 hours to change your mind, refunded in full.
2. Timber is selected and your maker assigned — we send you a photograph.
3. Carving, then four to six weeks in the kiln, dried to 10% moisture and logged. The cord is strung last.
4. Final photographs before crating. Nothing ships unseen.
5. Delivered to your door — crated, protected and duty-paid. Bringing it inside and unpacking it are yours; plan for two people.

Before you order

• Seat height is 340mm — a low, reclined lounge position rather than an upright chair. Worth checking against the sofa or table it will sit beside.
• Expect variation. Hand-strung cord means the weave tension and the horizon line differ slightly chair to chair. Grain and colour will differ from these photographs; the design and the standard of finish will not.
• Nothing to pay on arrival. Import duties, taxes and delivery to your door are included in the price. See Delivery for exactly what that covers.

Care

Dust the frame and re-oil once or twice a year with a natural furniture oil. Vacuum the cord on a low setting; spot-clean with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight — undyed cord lightens.
