The Riak Chaise

Riak — Indonesian for "ripple."

A long wave of slats, each one shaped and set by hand so the surface rises, dips and rises again beneath you. The frame runs underneath in a single curved rail, leaving the body of the chaise to float. Sit into it and the ripple does the work — no cushion, no upholstery, just wood following the shape of a person.

What happens after you order

1. You have 72 hours to change your mind, refunded in full.
2. Timber is selected and your maker assigned — we send you a photograph.
3. Every slat is shaped and set by hand, then four to six weeks in the kiln, dried to 10% moisture and logged.
4. Final photographs before crating. Nothing ships unseen.
5. Delivered to your door — crated, protected and duty-paid. Bringing it inside and unpacking it are yours; at 1.6m this one needs two people.

Before you order

• Measure your access. At 1.6m and rigid, this does not flex through a tight turn — check corridors and stairwells. Listed dimensions are nominal, with a tolerance of about ±2cm on hand-made work.
• No cushion. The comfort comes from the carved profile of the slats. A long seat pad can be added if you prefer, but the piece is designed to be sat in bare.
• Nothing to pay on arrival. Import duties, taxes and delivery to your door are included in the price. See Delivery for exactly what that covers.

Care

Dust between the slats with a soft brush. Re-oil once or twice a year with a natural furniture oil. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators and vents.
